Clay vs hard courts

Today, the weather wasn't so great so we had to some times go inside and some times out. These means that the players have to adjust. The type of clay which Lakeland has is grey clay. Clay is very different to hard courts. Clay firstly effects the spin of the ball thus the return and serve. In addition the bounce is also higher and slower whereas a hard court is faster. Players can also slide on clay courts which preserves energy however this normally needs to be taught, but is fairly easy to master. Looking at the business aspect clay courts are easy to build however difficult to maintain and costs a lot of money. They need to be rolled, lines need to be painted more frequently, and the amount of water let on the court has to be watched closely. Therefore costs more to the business however, clay is popular as it is rare to find them so could increase club membership to cover these costs. Hard courts are more favorable stereotypically.

At lakeland every morning the courts need to be watered and rolled by member of staff thus increasing amount of money outgoing. This is done three times a day. However, we like to play outside as much as much as possible and therefore needs to be planned efficiently to ensure players are outside as much as possible. I am not responsible for brushing and maintaining the courts however when I do do this, it is definitely my least favorite part but it has to be done! This is something again when or if I do open my own tennis business that will need to be taken in to consideration.
