Today was a mixture of activities, as usual the day started with a 1 and a half mile run and then yoga. As you can see in the video I did a lot of feeding to Jaedan, as you can see strapped to her is a device to help her bend her knees. Today was the day were we mainly focused on technique. As you can see we did a whole basket of forehand , backhand, drop shot and lob all with the device strapped on. Here I learnt that even if you are a high level player you still have to work on technique.
After this I learnt about the administration side of the business. As you can see from the photos, I went over how players pay, what costs, when they have to pay and also how coaches are paid. There are certain registration forms and players have to sign in every time they come in. Players also have to book in advance for sessions, so if they miss a session there is no refund for this. Lakeland Academy is also a public club so i asked whether people could just come in and play tennis. There are guest fees and court fees. This is to help generate income and also to promote individuals to join the club. If coaches however have individual lessons this also goes through the club first and then given a pay cheque. This club operates also slightly different from other clubs, not anyone can turn up there has to be a pre academy which goes through Melissa, my mentor. Also tennis groups are not organized in terms of age but ability this is quite uncommon in a lot of clubs. Later on in the afternoon during academy, i worked with some beginner players, here I had to explain clearly what to do, how to do it and also keep them having fun and focused for 2 hours. This was a change from working with higher level players and my pace, drills and communication all had to change.
