Day 4: today as usual starting off with a 1 mile run with Jaedan to keep her motivated , after this it was time for speed and agility for the full time players. I joined in to be able to understand what they are currently doing and also so I can see the type of exercises they are doing which are tennis specific. After feeling pretty sore, I was back on court making sure the players were meant to be doing what they were doing such as moving their feet, doing any drills picking up on anything technical they could be changing. I learnt a new game today to do with a large group of kids which involved different levels of players and kept them moving. This was called touch the fence, and all players loved this game! 1pm came and it was time for the full time players to train, we focused this time on consistency and keeping the ball deep in the court to be able to move their opponents back. As they have tournaments coming up everything is kept specific. Here this made me realize that certain drills are best before tournaments. The video below shows how a fellow coach Anna was working with a group of players. In terms of the business aspect I learnt how people sign up for the academy, what options they have in terms of joining. I also learnt that even though I am with the players a lot, I need to remember to stay professional at all times.
